Abstinence and Sexual Knowledge (ASK) Abstinence Education Program

Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph's abstinence-based education program originates from a curriculum called Choosing the Best Life for high school students and Choosing the Best Path for middle school students. The curriculums cover a variety of issues and topics such as:

  • risk of sexually transmitted disease (STD) and HIV/AIDS
  • importance of boundaries and assertiveness
  • self-respect
  • alcohol and drugs
  • teen pregnancy and responsibility
  • courage to abstain from sexual relations

Teaching abstinence alone is not enough. Character development is an integral part in empowering youth to make positive decisions that will enhance their self-esteem. The program focuses on character developing traits such as: self-respect, honesty, responsibility, compassion, choices, self-discipline, courage, handling peer pressure and the advantages of remaining abstinent. The ASK program is endorsed by the bishops of the Dioceses of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Jefferson City and Springfield-Cape Girardeau.
