Seniors@Work Employment ProgramThis employment program, funded in part by the U.S. Department of Labor and Employment Development through the Older Americans Act, is facilitated by Catholic Charities to assist persons over age 55 with job placement and training in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The program - 83% of which is funded by the grant and the remaining funded through in-kind and private donations - provides job training and placement for persons over 55 with limited financial resources and provides employers with trained, motivated workers. Participants are seeking employment for a number of reasons including lay-offs, early retirement, cut-backs, and the need to supplement insufficient retirement plans. Seniors@Work partners with area nonprofit agencies such as libraries, community centers, and social service agencies to train participants. Salaries are compensated by Catholic Charities through the grant. In a collaborative effort beneficial for both the host agencies and the senior participants, the seniors will receive invaluable training, experience and personal development while host agencies benefit from the life experience and dedication of a senior employee.
