When you’re hungry, without a stable home or can’t pay your utility bills, it’s difficult to move forward. It can literally consume all of your energy every day to just try and meet those very basic human needs.
But the impact of that poverty doesn’t just stop there. In fact, a new study published in JAMA Pediatrics suggests that children who experience poverty early on in their lives may suffer negative brain changes that can lead to lifelong issues, including learning difficulties, depression or an inability to cope with stress.
Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph works to meet those basic needs through our network of food pantries, emergency assistance sites and community partners. Once the urgent needs are met and the immediate crisis is stabilized, we help you take that next step toward transformation. We strive to help each person who comes to our door find a path out of poverty — permanently.
