If your current workplace isn’t showing you love, try us

February is the month of love. Love is in grocery aisles, in heart-shaped, red boxes full of candy. Love is a romantic dinner for two, or a dozen long-stemmed, red roses.
Yet we know love runs much deeper than these isolated images.

St. Paul describes love in his first letter to the Corinthians:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…”

On the heels of Valentine’s Day is another day beckoning our attention. It’s Random Acts of Kindness Day, on February 17. Random Acts of Kindness Day encourages people to do exactly what the name implies. It has grown in popularity, gaining significant momentum in recent years, especially after the publishing of a book bearing the same name.

Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph celebrates both of these days while also advancing our company culture through Hearts of Encouragement. All employees at Catholic Charities have their name written on a heart-shaped piece of paper and placed alphabetically on a communal wall. Employees are then asked to come by and write encouraging words about their co-workers.
Some examples are, “fun-loving,” “detail-oriented,” “patient” or “friendly and approachable.”

After a few weeks, the hearts are removed from the wall and placed in each person’s office. The recipient gets to feel the love and read the encouraging words from their colleagues.

There are many other special things about working in our faith-based environment, such as:

  • 4-Day Work Week, Monday – Thursday
  • Time off for Christmas break
  • Insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life-Insurance, and more) eligibility, the first day of the first month after hire date for all associates working 25+ hours per week
  • Company paid vacation and sick time accrual for all associates working 20+ hours per week
